Work

Big Goal

When you focus on big goals, the gap between where you are and where you want to go seems large.  No one who got big goals done used a hack or shortcut to get them. Instead, they consistently inched forward.

There is always something you can do today to get a little better, to move a little closer, to put yourself in a better position. It's not pretty. It's not sexy. It's not fast. It doesn't even make for a good story. But it works.

To move forward this week answer these questions:

How will I create value?

What am I expected to accomplish this week?

Whose support is critical?

How will I get some wins?

What skills do I need to develop to be better in my role?

Achieving the big goal takes consistent effort every day – it doesn’t happen in just one day.

Hard Things

If you don’t want to do the hard things then don’t sit in the big chair. Successful leaders know how to do hard things. They understand that dealing with hard things is what moves an organization forward. There’s value in working through hard things. Holding honest conversations about difficult topics helps build trust, especially during challenging times. It will require vulnerability. It takes skill which means it must be practiced, refined, and done again and again. Dealing with hard things is not easy however it is what successful leaders do.

Your calling

The notion of pursuing your passion through your work is incorrect.  Work is an avenue to fulfill your purpose.  Your passion may or may not be what your work provides.  If you pursue your purpose (or your calling) through work, then your passion will be cultivated.

Pursuing your purpose in work comes when you are doing something you are good at, feeling appreciated, and making people’s lives better.  Pursuing your calling (or purpose) at work will allow you to feel a part of something greater than yourself. When work aligns with your purpose, you are driven by your heart, rather than money or someone else’s expectations.

Compensation is only Part

Increasing compensation is only part of the answer. Compensation can overcome a poor work envirnoments and culture.

“Many employers are increasing employee pay to attract and retain essential talent in a highly competitive job market. And chances are, employees won’t be turning them down: According to Gallup, the importance of increased pay for job seekers has risen from No. 4 to No. 1 since 2015.

On the surface, this may appear to be an open-shut case: Employees want more money. Employers increase base pay. Problem solved. But what happens when this doesn’t work? Learn the answer here:”https://lnkd.in/gdFV4frB
